Nightly Reflection

After reading about the success of one particular Wall Street Banker in
How to Win Friends and Influence People, I took his secret to success, a soulful look inward...and made it my own.

Every evening I take 10 or 2o minutes of quiet time for inner reflection. With my list of dreams in front of me, I ask myself these questions:

  • What was I thankful for today?
  • What did I do well today?
  • What did I not do well today?
  • How can I change that?
  • What steps did I take today towards meeting my dreams?
  • What steps will I take tomorrow towards my dreams?
  • What is holding me back from reaching for my dreams?
  • How did I treat others today?
  • Did I encourage someone else towards their dreams today?
  • What can I do tomorrow to help someone else reach their dreams?

Anything I want to remember I jot down in my own personal 'book of wisdom,' a simple notebook that has become my beacon of inspiration...Da Vinci was on to something!

Wow, that's a tough list! I love it. I think that if I had these questions in mind during the day, I would be much more aware of where I was directing my energy. For instance, helping someone else toward a dream. I do this when it comes up, and gladly, but I don't think I necessarily seek it out (though I would like to). I would have to post this list by my bed until it became habitual in my thoughts and actions. It's a wonderful way to give focus and meaning to a day that might have whipped by me unconsciously...
